This social was a great way to network and get to know one another!  We’ve met at various locations around the DFW Metroplex including MiCocina, Jaxx Steakhouse, and Gloria’s Latin Cuisine.  Come out and join us!

Membership MeetingThe IISE DFW chapter met at the Omni hotel to discuss upcoming events and activities.

Dr. Dave Olszewski Thesis Presentation | The IISE DFW held its chapter met at the Doubletree Hotel. Additionally our presenter was Dr. Dave Olszewski, who presented on “The Use of Systems Thinking by the Industrial Engineer as an Organizational Leader”.

IISE and Healthcare, a presentation at Children’s Medical Center | Children’s Medical Center hosted the IISE DFW at their location in downtown Dallas, TX.  We received an overview of the Industrial Engineering organization, led by Dr. Dave Olszewski, and discussed healthcare operations and the Industrial Engineering Department activity increases. Department growth occurred as the hospital community’s knowledge increased on how to utilize Industrial Engineers to solve operational issues. The photos reflect presenters of the evening including Dr. Paul Componation and Dr. Shernette Kydd. This meeting, one of our highest attended events to-date, was coordinated and facilitated by Dr. Dave Olszewski.

Lockheed Martin, Missiles and Fire Control and Aerospace Tours | Our team conducted a tour of the Lockheed facility in Grand Prairie. We received a thorough presentation prior to the facility tour.  It was interesting the extent to which simulation and modeling was utilized within the organization. This tour was coordinated by Ethan Dollar.

We also toured the Aerospace facility in Fort Worth, Texas.  We received a formal presentation showcasing the vendor-specific and modular approach to aircraft assembly. The mile-long facility provided us with the assembly-line process approach used in building fighter aircraft.  This event was coordinated and facilitated by and Jill Freer.

Office Depot Logistics Tour | Office Depot provided an in-depth tour of one of their warehousing and distribution centers. This tour gave our members an inside look at some of the industrial engineering principles at work that help their plant run efficiently.  Our tour was coordinated by Mr. Kirtis Langlais.

Cook Children’s Hospital (Ft Worth, TX) : Industrial Engineering Impacts | The Process Improvement (PI) Dept at Cook Children’s Healthcare System (CCHS) Hospital hosted the IISE DFW organization.  The session was one of our most comprehensive presentations on organizational structure and operations.  We began with a solid overview “The Integration of Healthcare & Industrial Engineering at CCHS” by the Chief Effectiveness Officer.  We received separate presentations from the leadership of the Quality Department, Public Relations, Supply Chain, Information Systems, and the Process Improvement Dept as well as two separate project presentations. And we closed with a PI Strategic Overview “Healthcare Industry Challenges”.  This meeting was coordinated and facilitate by Dr. Shernette Kydd.

Simulation Presentations | University of Texas at Dallas hosted the IISE DFW chapter as we conducted our first multi-industry forum on Simulation.  We learned of the multi-phased approaches to applying simulation techniques and modeling to support decision making.  We heard from Darren York, Sr. Consultant KBC Technologies (Oil & Gas Industry); Dr. Brian Huff, Assoc Professor (UTA-Manufacturing and Simulation); and Dr. Karthik Ayodhirmanujan, Sr. Industrial Engineer (TransSolutions – Passenger Traffic Modeling).  The meeting was coordinated by Mr. Darren York.

Qorvo Presentation & Tour | We were delighted to have Manuel Aybar (Sr. Industrial Engineer) coordinate, present and facilitate a tour of the Qorvo semiconductor facility in Richardson, Texas.  Manny presented on the operations of their clean-facility and perceived growth in the industry.  Photos were naturally limited to the meeting portion of the presentation due to product sensitivity.  Following the presentation we suited-up in protective gear and split up into groups for our clean room tour.  The images are web examples, as no photos were allowed.  With the air filtration system and hyper-controlled environment, one could argue that the clean room is more hygienic than an operating room (food for thought).

General Meeting – Doubletree Hotel | General meeting held at the Doubletree Hotel in Farmers Branch TX.
